Safety Recommendations from NASA

When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, which happens before and after totality, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun.

Eclipse Totality

Best Viewing Locations for Totality

San Antonio, TX

Close to the Mexican border, this city will be one of the initial locations in the US to witness totality at 1:32 pm and extend for nearly 4.5 minutes.

Russellville, AR

Located approximately 85 miles east of Little Rock, Russellville will encounter four minutes and 12 seconds of totality, commencing at 1:50 pm.

Cape Girardeau, MO

Based on NASA’s map, totality in Cape Girardeau, MO will endure for more than four minutes, commencing at 1:58 pm, a great place to view!

Carbondale, IL

Carbondale, Illinois is right on the center line, and will be a great place to witness totality for four minutes and 10 seconds, starting at 1:59 pm.

Indianapolis, IN

Totality at 3:00 pm for three minutes and 47 seconds. A significant portion of southern Indiana will encounter for approximately 4 minutes.

Cleveland, OH

At 3:15 pm, the city will reach peak darkness, lasting just shy of four minutes. Cleveland will be a stellar place to witness the total solar eclipse.

Erie, PA

In Erie, the total darkness of the eclipse totality period will begin at 3:16 pm and will span three minutes and 42 seconds. This will be an excellent place to view.

Buffalo, NY

Buffalo, New York is in the path to experience three minutes and 46 seconds of complete darkness, commencing at 3:18 pm. How exciting!
